City Boulevard Tree Replacement (2016) in Ambleside 7/8/9

Tree Maintenance for Newly Planted Trees

Seven M Construction will supply, install and maintain the boulevard trees until final inspection in 2017. Until then, we will take care of tree staking, 2016 watering, pruning, and installation of mulch around your tree. After the final inspection, the boulevard tree maintenance will then become City inventory and City responsibility.

Please note that the top of the root ball and the root flare will be 40 mm above the finished grade. We have supplied mulch to cover the exposed root ball and it will extend to 150 mm around the tree. Please do not adjust the mulch in any way; this is a City of Edmonton requirement for the tree to pass inspection. Please see the diagram below from the City of Edmonton Construction and Design Manual.

Tree Replacement

Seven M Construction Ltd. will be working with the developer, Windermere Ambleside Ltd. to replace the city Boulevard Street Tree in front of your house. The tree in front of your property has been identified as needing to be replaced in order to meet the City of Edmonton’s plant material standards. This is a requirement under City specifications and the original conditions for development. The replacement is necessary due to a potential number of reasons identified by a certified arborist. The specific cause for the tree replacement in front of your lot is noted on the attached site plan.

If there are decorative landscape items, or sculptures, these items must be moved at least 2 meters away from the base of the tree with a clear access point at the front for removal of the existing tree. Upon planting of a new tree, the landscaping around the tree (within 2 meters) will be repaired with mulch and/or sod. Seven M will only remove/alter the landscape immediately around the base of the tree and will exercise upmost care. (We will not disrupt private property)

Any homeowner’s landscape items or landscape lighting within the tree that has not been removed, will not be the responsibility of the contractor or developer if damage occurs.

Tree replacement types have selected according to pre-approved by the City of Edmonton. Tree selections are for species suitable for residential boulevards and growing conditions within Edmonton.

Seven M Construction Ltd. will supply and install the designated City Boulevard tree including tree staking, 2016 watering and installation of mulch around the base of the tree. We ask that you please do not water the tree. Once installed please do not alter the tree in any way as a final follow up inspection will be conducted in 2017 with the City.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Frequently Asked Questions

 1. How do I know if I have a boulevard tree and whether it needs to be replaced?

Your boulevard tree will be located within the first two meters of the lot if you have one. Please check the above maps of Ambleside 7, 8 and 9, find your lot and see if your tree is being replaced.

2. I have questions or concerns. How do I contact you?

I’m sorry that we haven’t addressed all of your questions. Email us at ambleside@7m.ca and we will do our best to answer as soon as possible!

3. Can I pick what kind of tree will be in front of my home?

Unfortunately, no. Tree replacement types have been selected and pre-approved by the City of Edmonton. The tree selections are suitable for residential boulevards and growing conditions within Edmonton.

4. Why are there all these flags and spray paint marks around my home? Can I remove them?

Please do not remove any construction flags or spray paint markings on your property. They are most likely from our friends at Alberta One Call, indicating where your utilities are. We don’t think you want us to accidently cut off your cable or power, so make sure that we know where we can dig. Because of the large area we are covering, we have asked for all utilities in Ambleside 7, 8 and 9 to be located as it is too difficult to do each home individually.

5. How do I maintain my newly planted tree?

In one word, don’t! Seven M Construction will supply, install and maintain the boulevard trees until final inspection in 2017. Until then, we will take care of tree staking, 2016 watering, and installation of mulch around your tree. After the final inspection, the boulevard tree maintenance will then become City inventory and City responsibility.

Maintenance Notice

Seven M Construction Ltd. is working with the developer, Windermere Ambleside Ltd. in maintaining the city Boulevard Street Tree in front of your house for the 2016 growing season. This notice is to serve as information if you noticed landscape maintenance crews attending to the boulevard tree. The routine maintenance activities will include fertilizing, watering, minor pruning and adjustments to the tree staking and guy wiring.

This maintenance is a requirement of the original conditions for development and City specifications. Once the tree has been assessed in early June 2016 a follow up inspection will occur in the spring of 2017. The boulevard tree maintenance will then become City inventory and City responsibility.

Seven M Construction Ltd. will be carrying this work periodically throughout the growing season. We ask that you please do not water the tree. Over watering will affect the tree’s establishment as much or more than under watering.

Thank you for your cooperation.
